The DVLA is the organisation responsible for maintaining a database of drivers and a database of vehicles in Great Britain. DVLA issues driving licences, organises collection of Vehicle excise duty (road tax) and sells Private Number Plates .
In July 2012, findings of a public consultation in to the transformation of DVLA were announced. The outcomes of this review determined that transactions and services should be gradually migrated from the existing 39 DVLA Local Offices to a mix of alternative channels. From the 1st of July 2013 DVLA started to close their local offices and now everything is process through the Central Headquarters DVLA Swansea.
